Join Mark Swartz from Trees for Woolwich for a tour of the Elmira Nature Reserve. Located on the east side of Elmira, the Nature Reserve is 67 acres of seriously degraded abandoned farm fields, wetlands and wooded areas. Since 2021, Trees for Woolwich volunteers have been restoring the ecosystem, planting a tallgrass prairie and creating a new forest with over 2,000 trees. Join us to see the remarkable transformation achieved in just three years. Nature Guelph donated over 100 tall grass species to the project.
Park at 96 Southfield Drive, Elmira and follow the trail to the tree nursery. Wear comfortable hiking shoes. Although a great area for birding and nature photography, this tour will require a moderate walking pace and you are invited to return on another occasion to linger for birds and photos. To carpool, meet at Dollarama, Hartsland Plaza, Kortright and Edinburgh at 12:00 pm.
