Join the Nature Guelph Bird Wing group to find waterfowl, Tundra Swans, Sandhill Cranes and early spring migrants in this key birding location. Meet at 9:00 a.m. at Birds Canada National Headquarters, 115 Front Road, Port Rowan. We will visit sites featured in the Long Point Birding Trail available at https://birdscanada.b-cdn.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Birding-Trail-brochure-2021.pdf.

The exact itinerary for the day will depend on the weather and birding conditions. Participants should expect to walk several kilometers over the course of the day, with some driving to trailheads. Carpooling is encouraged and can be arranged among participants before or during the event. Participants should plan to bring their own lunch, and will need to pay for entry into the park.

Dress very warmly, especially if it’s windy, as it can sometimes be bitterly cold in April. Binoculars are recommended. A spotting scope is also very useful.

Tour is limited to 20 participants (Note trip is at capacity). Please register in advance using this link: https://forms.gle/qbcLYZey7TBG8S4J8

Long Point Provincial Park is one of the largest bird and waterfowl migration and staging areas in North America and located within a designated World Biosphere Reserve

Washrooms and water are available throughout the park, but options for food near the park are limited, so participants are encouraged to bring their own food. As the weather in April can be variable, the following are recommended: optics (binoculars and/or camera), layered clothing suitable for both cold and warm weather, rainwear, a hat, comfortable footwear, sunscreen, snacks, and lunch. Rubber boots may be recommended depending on the water level in Lake Erie.

About the walk:
