
Join Nature Guelph Bird Wing group for a day of finding shorebirds within the Wellington/Waterloo area. With the fall migration underway, we will visit a few spots where shorebirds are likely to be encountered locally. This volunteer-led outing will be a follow-up for our September speaker session (Sept 4 – Southbound Shorebirds with Jean Iron).
Potential locations may include:
- Guelph Lake
- Belwood Lake & vicinity
- Wilson’s Flats
- Floradale
Actual locations visited and route will be decided closer to the day based on recent sightings.

Nature Guelph events are open to non-members and everyone is welcome! This event is free, but donations are always appreciated. LOCATION & TIME: Meet at Wild Birds Unlimited (987 Gordon Street, Unit 2, Guelph ON N1G 4W3) to arrange carpooling at 8 am. We should arrive back in Guelph by 2 or 3 pm.
IMPORTANT DETAILS
- This event includes considerable travel by car. Public transport is not available.
- This event is family-friendly, BUT there will be prolonged periods of waiting/standing around, potentially in cold, windy, and/or wet weather. This event is likely not suitable for young children.
- This event is NOT dog-friendly.
- This will be a full day please be prepared with snacks, lunch, water and a warm beverage. There are opportunities for quick food stops along the way or bring your own lunch.
- DRESS WARMLY! It will be colder than you think! Dress for the weather – it’s often colder than you think along the water, so wear lots of layers! And you might get wet next to the falls.
- Bring your binoculars and spotting scopes if you have them. If you need some binoculars, Guelph Public Library has binoculars that can be borrowed.
- Carpooling can be arranged by participants at the meeting spot or ahead of time.
