David will explore how healthy, diverse ecosystems can resist invasive species – and how community-centred restoration can contribute to climate resilience. The talk examines the impacts of invasive species on riparian ecosystems and looks at how the principles of biotic resistance can inform buckthorn management and ecological restoration, drawing on field trials along the Eramosa and Speed Rivers. Landowners and communities working together can restore healthy ecosystems and help build resilience to impacts of climate change.
Over the past several years, David Fields has worked on freshwater and riparian restoration projects across southern Ontario, bringing together communities, landowners, volunteers, conservation organizations, and funders to create meaningful, community-centred impact. His work has included rehabilitating riparian corridors, mapping and managing invasive species, and exploring practical ways to help freshwater ecosystems be more resilient to a changing climate.
David enjoys helping people get dirty for a more hopeful and healthy future.
