Sandhill Cranes are large, charismatic birds that can often be seen (and heard!) in large congregations in the fall. Once near extinction, cranes have made a remarkable recovery, and they are becoming more commonly observed in Ontario and Quebec. This presentation will give an overview to how researchers catch and use GPS telemetry to track movements of cranes captured in Ontario and Quebec.
Speaker Bio: Kelly McLean is the Ecology Lab Coordinator for the Environment Faculty at the University of Waterloo, and PhD student in the Fedy Lab at the University of Waterloo. Kellys PhD research focuses on the movement ecology and habitat use of Sandhill Cranes. In her role as the Ecology Lab Coordinator at the University of Waterloo, she assists with field and lab course components in the Environment Faculty.
