Join David Fields and Nature Guelph for a hands-on field event to support the health of the Speed River, explore how healthy, diverse ecosystems can resist invasive species, and how community-centred restoration can contribute to climate resilience. This event will involve light fieldwork, including hand-cutting of buckthorn, sowing seeds, and planting shrubs. Tools, PPE, and refreshments will be provided.
This event connects with a talk scheduled for October 20 that takes a deeper dive into biotic resistance and invasive species management.
Meet at the trailhead for the Guelph to Cambridge Trail at County Road 32 (just past the bridge) – there is a wide shoulder for parking; look for signage and traffic cones. There will be a one kilometre walk to the event site. Washrooms will be available at the Petro Canada gas station nearby, at the corner of County Road 32 and Hwy 124.
