BirdsOutdoor Programs

On Saturday, April 18, 2026, our Bird Wing group embarked on a memorable field trip to the Long Point Bird Observatory and the picturesque Long Point Area. With 28 participants in attendance, the outing yielded an impressive total of 63 bird species observed (check out our eBird Trip List).

The itinerary included a guided visit to the Long Point Bird Observatory, where staff explained the bird banding process and provided plenty of time for our group to watch and take photos of the banding. Participants also walked through the woods to see how birds are captured and handled for banding. A special thanks to the Birds Canada staff for hosting our visit and sharing their expertise.

Other highlights were the Long Point-Inner Bay Viewing Stand, Big Creek National Wildlife Area and Port Rowan Wetland.  The group also spent time at the Birds Canada headquarters where we enjoyed a picnic lunch while watching the birds.  We also wandered the property checking the bush and ponds for birds and scanned the bay and mud flats.

The trip was a great success, and we enthusiastically anticipate future outings in the area.
