Join us for an evening walk along Marden Creek at Ignatius Jesuit Centre (located just north of Guelph). This walk will explore the remarkable role of beavers in shaping healthy ecosystems. Often misunderstood as nuisances, beavers are in fact powerful ecosystem restoration experts, slowing water, repairing floodplains, and creating habitat for a wide range of species. During this guided walk, we’ll look for signs of beaver activity and discuss how their dam-building supports biodiversity and climate resilience. Along the way, we’ll learn how to recognize active versus inactive beaver constructions, and consider how working with natural processes can also result in better outcomes for our communities.
This walk will combine natural history, observation, and conversation, and is open to anyone curious to understand beavers and the hidden dynamics of the landscapes around us.
