Join Nature Guelph Bird Wing on Thursday, January 22, 2026 from 7:30-9:00 pm for an engaging presentation from Dr. Oliver Love on the Canadian Snow Bunting Network. Oliver Love is a Professor in Integrative Ecology in the Department of Integrative Biology at the University of Windsor. He grew up with a keen interest in the natural world and primarily considers himself an amateur naturalist who is now lucky enough to get paid to go explore how and why organisms make a living in the face of environmental challenges. His research group examines how flexible physiological and behavioural mechanisms translate the impacts of rapid environmental change into performance and fitness outcomes for temperate and Arctic birds. Their focus on Arctic-breeding species is assessing whether cold-adapted species such as snow buntings, common eiders and thick-billed murres can flexibly respond to the ongoing impacts of rapid environmental change facing the North. The team is currently examining how and why the direct and indirect effects of climate and habitat change are impacting Snow buntings across their entire annual cycle for this rapidly declining species. To ensure their work is relevant to in support of the needs of the communities that host these birds, their work is strongly focused on the value and importance of community consultation, engagement and involvement in all aspects of their work.
