DESCRIPTION:Join Nature Guelph Bird Wing on Thursday\, September 4\, 2025 f
 rom 7:30-9:00 pm for an engaging presentation from shorebird enthusiast Je
 an Iron on the southbound migration of shorebirds. From the end of June to
  freeze-up\, southbound migrant shorebirds from the Canadian Arctic stop o
 ver in southern Ontario. This presentation gives tips to identify and age 
 southbound shorebirds\, including how to distinguish Long-billed and Short
 -billed Dowitchers. There will be suggestions for places to see southbound
  shorebirds in southern Ontario.\n\nThis event will be hosted in person at
  Wild Birds Unlimited Guelph (987 Gordon St\, Guelph\, ON).  \n\nAbout t
 he Speaker:\n\nJean Iron is a well-known Ontario birder who was president 
 of the Ontario Field Ornithologists for 9 years and a former editor of OFO
  News. In 2016\, she received the OFO Distinguished Ornithologist Award fo
 r her significant contributions to the scientific study of birds in Ontari
 o and Canada and for being a resource to the club and the Ontario birding 
 community. Her special interests are shorebirds\, gulls\, bird identificat
 ion\, geese and grassland birds of the Carden Alvar. Jean has led adventur
 e tours for Quest Nature Tours to many places including Antarctica and Hig
 h Arctic Canada. The extensive mudflats of Ontario's James Bay coast are o
 f hemispheric importance to staging and migrating shorebirds. Jean’s pas
 sion for shorebirds and conservation took her to remote James and Hudson B
 ays from 2002-2018 to survey shorebirds with the Ontario Ministry of Natur
 al Resources (OMNR)\, Royal Ontario Museum (ROM)\, and Canadian Wildlife S
 ervice (CWS).\n\nTHIS EVENT IS FREE BUT DONATIONS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME.\n\nD
