DESCRIPTION:Dr. Andrew Peregrine\, Associate Professor in Clinical Parasito
 logy\, Ontario Veterinary College\, University of Guelph\n\n\n–\n\nTicks
  and the diseases they carry are a growing threat to those you like to wal
 k in Nature. Dr. Peregrine will review the ticks that can be found on dogs
  and people in Ontario\, and how to identify the tick responsible for Lyme
  disease. Data will be presented that indicate how the risk of Lyme diseas
 e is changing across Ontario and what will likely happen in the future. St
 rategies to reduce the risk of infection in both dogs and people will also
  be discussed.\n\nAndrew Peregrine obtained his DVM and PhD from the Unive
 rsity of Glasgow\, Scotland. He then worked for nine years at the Internat
 ional Laboratory for Research on Animal Diseases\, Nairobi\, Kenya\, where
  he carried out research to improve control of tropical parasites of cattl
 e. Since 1997\, he has been an associate professor in clinical parasitolog
 y at the Ontario Veterinary College\, University of Guelph\, where he teac
 hes DVM students. In addition\, his research interests currently include e
 merging parasite infections of animals and people\, and drug resistance in
  parasites of dogs and sheep. He is a diplomate of the European Veterinary
  Parasitology College and the American College of Veterinary Microbiologis
 ts.
