SUMMARY:Catching Thermals: Tracking the Migration of Broad-winged Hawks
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Rebecca McCabe\, Biologist\, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary\n\n\n
 –\nIn 2014\, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary launched a full annual cycle study 
 of the Broad-winged Hawk. Almost a decade later\, Sanctuary biologists are
  continuing to uncover the mysteries of this long-distance migrant. Join R
 ebecca McCabe as she explains how Hawk Mountain is helping to conserve Bro
 ad-winged Hawks throughout their range\, from monitoring nests in the nort
 heast to attaching tiny GPS devices to track them as they migrate between 
 North and South America.\n\nRebecca received her B.S. in Environmental Bio
 logy at Millersville University (2013)\, and then earned her M.S. in Biolo
 gy at East Stroudsburg University (2016) studying the nesting behavior of 
 broad-winged hawks in Pennsylvania. In December 2021\, Rebecca defended he
 r Ph.D. research at McGill University studying snowy owl ecology and survi
 val rate in winter. Rebecca joined the staff full time at Hawk Mountain Sa
 nctuary in May 2021\, serving as one of the Sanctuary’s biologists. She 
 continues researching broad-winged hawks and snowy owls and is involved in
  the Sanctuary’s long-term American kestrel project. She also assists wi
 th other various aspects of conservation science\, including the internati
 onal trainee program\, advising undergraduate and graduate students and sc
 ience-education outreach.\n\n\nThe speaker will be presenting via Zoom. Yo
