DESCRIPTION:Ross D. Stewart\, Postdoctoral researcher\, Centre for Biodiver
 sity Genomics and the Department of Integrative Biology\, University of Gu
 elph\n\n– \n\nAcross Canada\, schools\, naturalists\, and community gro
 ups are operating Malaise traps and sending their catches to the Centre fo
 r Biodiversity Genomics\, where DNA barcoding is used to reveal the insect
 s they contain. Ross will share the story of BugQuest’s first national s
 eason: what was collected\, what these samples can tell us about insect di
 versity across Canada\, and the challenges of turning hundreds of communit
 y-run sampling sites into a coordinated biodiversity survey. He will also 
 explain how local naturalists can become involved in the 2027 BugQuest sea
 son.\n\nRoss D. Stewart is a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre for Bio
 diversity Genomics and the Department of Integrative Biology at the Univer
 sity of Guelph\, where he leads BugQuest. His research combines field ecol
 ogy\, DNA barcoding\, and biodiversity informatics to understand how biolo
 gical communities vary across landscapes. Before moving to Canada\, he lec
 tured in botany and conducted biodiversity research in South Africa.\n\n&n
