SUMMARY:Birding Photography - Outdoor Workshop (FULL)
DESCRIPTION:Join the volunteer-led Nature Guelph Bird Wing group for a bird
ing photography workshop with local photographer Stu McCannell.\n\nLocatio
n - University of Guelph Arboretum (meet at bird feeder next to Arboretum
Centre)\, expect to walk an estimated distance of 2km\n\nPre-Registration
Required. Workshop is limited to 20 people. This trip is currently at capa
city. Please look for other Nature Guelph outings to enjoy.\n\nStu McCanne
ll Bio\n\nUpon graduating from the workforce in 2016\, Stu decided to lear
n photography as a hobby\, since it could be practiced year round and woul
d connect him with a community of active and enthusiastic people while lea
rning this craft. \n\nStu and his wife Linda both grew up on dairy farms a
nd have an affinity for open spaces and nature.\n\nHis photography not onl
y satisfies a drive to learn new skills but also allows him to share the n
atural world with others who may not have even noticed it. Stu feels that
done well\, it is a chance to amuse and amaze folks and perhaps even motiv
ate some to do the same.\n\nBesides serving as President of the Guelph Pho
tographers Guild\, Stu is an avid cyclist\, fly fisher\, kayaker and garde
ner. He is also a competent operator of the vacuum cleaner.\n\nWorkshop De
scription\n\nThe target audience for this workshop includes birder/photogr
aphers who have had some experience trying to photograph birds and could u
se some guidance to improve the quality of their images. While some may wi
sh to only be able to document the sighting\, others may also wish to crea
te an artistic image with some consideration for composition. Any type of
camera will do the job as long as it is equipped with a lens that has the
reach to mostly fill the frame with the desired image (i.e.\, does not hav
e to be severely cropped). This not only allows us to compose in camera bu
t also allows us to remain at a respectful distance from our subject.\n\nS
tu will cover bird photography basics:  composition\, camera settings\, l
 ighting\, bird patterns and behaviour\, patience/persistence/ethics.\n\nTo
pics to be discussed may also include:\n\n·       Various focus set
tings as well as shutter speed and F stops for the results we expect\n\n·
Photographing birds in trees with a bright sky back drop\; ho
w to deal with that with metering modes and or exposure compensation.\n\n
 ·       Birds in flight - shutter speeds and the value of fast burs
 t shooting\n\n·       Tripods and monopods \n\n·       Shoot
ing jpeg or RAW \n\n·       Post processing thoughts\n\nLocal volun
teers will also be on hand to help find and identify the birds being photo
 graphed.\n\nEmail BirdWing@slategray-goat-873595.hostingersite.com if you
have any event-related questions. Please do not request assistance with r
egistration through our social media accounts.\n\nPhoto Credit: Stu McCann
